Why I love Dan Savage

http://www.readymade.com

This is a hanging light fixture I made for my sustainable design class. We were given  the fan shield and the slide tray and no parameters, and this is what we came up with. The point of the assignment was to submit our designs to readymade magazine, in hopes of possibly getting on their website to share with others. Surprisingly, a significant number of my classmates got onto the website, go check it out, and maybe it’ll give you some new idea of how to reuse things you have lying around, and a project to do on a rainy day.

learnalilgivinanlovin♥: People That Come Into Your Life

elektracarl:

I StumbledUpon this and found it perfect. beautiful. and oh so true. I hope you find as much beauty in it as I do.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who…

"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through."

The Savage Love-cast

A question and answer sex podcast by Dan Savage. I like the podcast mostly because I like Dan and his take on a variety of topics. Listen to enough, and you’ll soon be able to learn from many different types of people all with very different questions/concerns/problems. He is a realist, and I think this is why he is successful. Despite his knowledge of all things sex, I think people seek him out because they know he will simply tell them the truth, often a truth they know but are afraid to confront.

Radiolab

I was introduced to this podcast during my UWP 1 class, and despite the waste of time that class was, my teacher lead us to this podcast and had us listen to a few and discuss them, and I was hooked since, so blessing in disguise. Ask me some of my favorites, or just listen to all of them in order. Instead of music one day listen to a podcast, you’ll be shocked by the amount of time we walk around, guarantee you can listen to an hour podcast a day, or every two days. Plus, it gives you fun things to share with your friends and really interesting conversation topics. You’ll be hooked too, I promise.
